The Del McCoury Band's It's Just the Night, released on McCoury Music (MCM 0001) in 2003, is the inaugural release on the band's own imprint—marking their independence after decades recording for Rounder, Sugar Hill, and others. Del McCoury plays guitar and sings; Ronnie McCoury, mandolin; Rob McCoury, banjo; Jason Carter, fiddle; and Mike Bub, upright bass. Recorded at Skaggs Place Studio and Signal Path Studios, the album won the IBMA Album of the Year award and received a Grammy nomination for Best Bluegrass Album—an extraordinary debut for a band-owned label. The catalog number MCM 0001 is itself a declaration: the founding stone of a catalog built and controlled entirely within the McCoury family's own enterprise.
