“Dry My Tears and Move On” was written by Richard Thompson, the English songwriter and guitarist. He recorded it in the late 1990s, and the Del McCoury Band later took it into bluegrass.
The song is a heartbreak number with a measure of resolve. The singer tells the one he loves that if he is not wanted, he will not beg — he will dry his tears and move on — though the steadiness of the words barely covers the hurt beneath.
The Del McCoury Band has long looked outside bluegrass for strong songs.
