Keep on Pushing (Flying Fish FF 70561, 1990) is the final studio album from Country Gazette, the progressive bluegrass band that had been a significant force in West Coast acoustic music since the early 1970s. Alan Munde, the band's banjoist, leads the ensemble alongside Chris Vandertuin on guitar and vocals, with Gene Wooten contributing dobro. Country Gazette had emerged from the Flying Burrito Brothers orbit and sustained an unusually long run as a vehicle for advanced bluegrass playing outside Nashville. The Flying Fish label — home to Doc Watson, Tony Rice, Norman Blake, and others — was a natural resting place for the band's studio catalog. The album captures the ensemble in straightforward acoustic performance appropriate for a band closing out two decades of defining a regional style within the genre's progressive wing.
