Sam Bush's King of My World, released on Sugar Hill (SUG-CD 3987) in 2004, is a song-focused studio set that foregrounds Bush's singing alongside his instrumental virtuosity. Jon Randall contributes guitar and vocals; Brad Davis, guitar; Byron House, upright and electric bass; Larry Atamanuik, drums; Andrea Zonn, fiddle and vocals; and Reese Wynans—longtime keyboardist for Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble—plays piano and organ on the title track. The Wynans cameo is characteristic of Bush's cross-genre reach, anchoring a record that ranges from traditional repertoire to contemporary singer-songwriter material in an unexpected blues-rock register. The overall feel is warmer and more intimate than his earlier, more eclectic Sugar Hill studio releases.
