Landmark (self-released, 2019) is the debut solo album from Jake Workman, the Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder guitarist, assembling a cast of Nashville and bluegrass-circuit partners for twelve tracks of original instrumental music. Workman plays guitar throughout; Stuart Duncan plays fiddle; Sierra Hull plays mandolin; Russ Carson plays banjo; Justin Moses plays dobro; and Jeff Picker holds the bass, with additional contributions from Ricky Skaggs and Jeff Taylor on select tracks. The album demonstrates Workman's fluency as a composer and arranger, presenting flat-pick guitar within a full acoustic ensemble context rather than as a solo showcase. Each track explores a distinct aspect of American acoustic string music, from bluegrass-rooted instrumentals to more harmonically open pieces, and Landmark established Workman's compositional voice alongside his long-standing identity as a sideman.
