Ronnie Reno & the Reno Tradition’s Lessons Learned was released by Rural Rhythm Records on March 17, 2015 (RUR-1130), while Reno was celebrating sixty years in the music business. He is the son of Don Reno of Reno & Smiley, played with his father as a boy, and later worked with the Osborne Brothers (from 1968) and Merle Haggard’s band the Strangers (from 1975). The Reno Tradition, formed in 2002, is his current band and the house band of his television show, Reno’s Old Time Music.

Reno produced the album, with Steve Chandler as co-producer and engineer, and recorded it at Hill Top Studios in Nashville. The album has eleven tracks, nine of them written or co-written by Reno. He sings lead and plays guitar, with Mike Scott on banjo, John Maberry on mandolin, Steve Day on fiddle, Heath Van Winkle on bass and tenor vocals, Harry Stinson on drums and Sonya Isaacs singing harmony. Reno switches to mandolin for the instrumental “Reno’s Mando Magic.” “Trail of Sorrow” is by Don Reno. The bonus track “Always Late,” written by Lefty Frizzell and Blackie Crawford, features Frizzell’s son David on lead vocal, with Reno on tenor and three mandolins (Reno, Jackie Miller and Maberry).
