Little Bird, released on 5 October 2004 on Bell Buckle Records (BBR 015), is Becky Buller’s second solo album, following Rest My Weary Feet (2000). Rich Adler produced and engineered it at SoundWave Studio in Nashville, and Valerie Smith wrote the liner notes. Buller wrote or co-wrote twelve of its thirteen tracks, co-writing “On the South Dakota Wind” with Smith and “Opal, Ruby & Pearl” with Carl Jackson; “Cabin on a Mountain” is by Cal Veale and Clyde Williamson. Three tracks are instrumentals: “Clivus Mulchum,” “Soddy Daisy” and “Where the Flowers Divide.”
Buller plays fiddle on all but one track and sings lead on most of the vocals. Stephen Mougin on guitar, Wayne Benson on mandolin, Patton Wages on banjo and Daniel Hardin on bass make up the core band on several tracks. Others fill the sessions: Ron Block on guitar, Adam Steffey on mandolin, Rob Ickes on Dobro, Andrea Zonn on fiddle and viola, Rick Gordon on guitar, Shad Cobb on banjo and Amanda Kowalski on bass. Harmony singers include Alan Bartram, Megan Gregory, Carl Jackson, Mougin and Zonn. Since May 2001 Buller had been touring with Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike. In 2016 she won the IBMA Fiddle Player of the Year award, the first woman to do so.
