Lover's Leap, released in 2017, is a project from the Darrell Webb Band that demonstrates Webb's development as a frontman and songwriter following his years as a sought-after sideman in the professional bluegrass world. Webb's mandolin playing, shaped by years of working alongside elite players in high-pressure live and recording contexts, provides the instrumental anchor for a set that emphasizes original material. 'I'm Going That Way' takes its emotional orientation from the tradition of bluegrass songs about departure — leaving a place, leaving a person, moving toward something or away from something — a subject that the music has addressed with remarkable consistency since Monroe first recorded in the 1940s.
