+1 (Compass Records, 2021) is the debut album from fiddler Mike Barnett, a fourteen-track collection of duet recordings in which Barnett partners with a different musician on each track, showcasing his facility across bluegrass, old-time, country, and jazz-inflected acoustic styles. Barnett plays fiddle throughout; Molly Tuttle contributes on her featured track, among a diverse group of collaborators representing the contemporary acoustic music world. The album translates the informal session and collaboration culture of Nashville's acoustic community into a controlled studio setting where each pairing creates its own distinct two-voice environment. Barnett, a Berklee College of Music graduate, has developed one of the most technically versatile fiddle voices in the current generation of acoustic musicians, and the duet format foregrounds that versatility across a range of styles and partnerships.
