My Old Virginia Home, released in 2001, is a project from Big Country Bluegrass that situates itself squarely within the Virginia and North Carolina traditional bluegrass lineage. The title invokes the tradition of Appalachian place-longing, and the album's repertoire and approach lean toward the mountain sound that characterized the Clinch Valley and Blue Ridge corridors from which so much of the music's vocabulary derived. Big Country Bluegrass has operated in the professional regional circuit with a commitment to tight harmonies and the mountain sound, representative of the working regional bands that sustained bluegrass between its commercial peaks.
