Not for Kids Only is a collaboration between Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia and acoustic music pioneer David Grisman, released in 1993. The album is built around traditional children's songs and nursery rhymes — 'Freight Train,' 'There Ain't No Bugs on Me' — performed by two musicians of immense folk and acoustic roots. Garcia had been playing acoustic music with Grisman since their early friendship in the Bay Area folk scene, and their duo recordings captured something genuinely unguarded in Garcia's playing. The record is playful without being silly, and the skill these two bring to simple material gives it a warmth that transcends its nominal audience.
