Ola Belle Reed and Family cover

Ola Belle Reed and Family presents one of the most distinctive and underappreciated figures in American traditional music alongside the relatives with whom she performed and preserved the North Carolina and Maryland mountain music traditions. Reed, born in 1916 in Lansing, North Carolina, spent much of her adult life in the mid-Atlantic region, where she became a central figure in the folk revival while maintaining direct connections to the old-time and early country traditions she had grown up with. Her song 'I've Endured' became something of an anthem in folk circles. This 2006 reissue collects material that documents Reed's family musical world, connecting listeners to a regional tradition that professional revival often overlooked.
