Old Time Music Party (Patuxent Music, 2013) is a studio album led by multi-instrumentalist Brian Vollmer featuring players drawn from the Mid-Atlantic and Appalachian old-time community. Vollmer plays fiddle and banjo; Nate Leath and Rosie Newton each contribute fiddle; Ben Townsend plays banjo and fiddle; Mark Schimick plays guitar and mandolin; and Joe DeJarnette holds the bass. The album presents Southern Appalachian dance tunes and old-time songs in a communal atmosphere, emphasizing the social and participatory character of the tradition rather than individual instrumental showcase. Vollmer had been a central figure in the Baltimore old-time scene, and Old Time Music Party reflects that community's emphasis on the music's functional roots in group dancing and playing rather than formal concert presentation.
