On Down the Line cover

On Down the Line (Compass Records 7 4634-2, 2014) is the second Compass album from Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper, the Indiana-based bluegrass ensemble led by the multiple IBMA Fiddle Player of the Year. Cleveland plays fiddle throughout; Josh Richards plays guitar; Nathan Livers plays mandolin; Glen Gibson plays banjo; and Tyler Griffith holds the bass. Cleveland anchors the ensemble with the hard-driving, technically precise fiddle playing that established him as one of the dominant voices in traditional bluegrass since the early 2000s. On Down the Line continues the direction of the band's Rounder debut — straightahead hard bluegrass with strong vocal arrangements and Cleveland's fiddle as the instrumental focus — while presenting a slightly evolved Flamekeeper lineup with an integrated, cohesive ensemble feel.
