On Radio, Vol. 1 (Copper Creek Records CCCD-0120, 1993) is the first in a four-volume series drawn from radio transcription discs Bill Bolick preserved from the Blue Sky Boys' WGST Atlanta broadcasts of 1946 and 1947. Bill Bolick plays mandolin and sings; Earl Bolick plays guitar and sings, the brothers performing as the close-harmony duet that had defined their sound since their first Bluebird sessions in 1936. The transcriptions document the full working radio repertoire — sacred numbers, comedy sketches, traditional instrumentals — in the informal conversational format of live broadcast rather than the controlled conditions of a studio session. Copper Creek issued the series from Bolick's personal disc archive, and the result stands as the most complete available document of the brothers' day-to-day performance life during their most active radio period.
