Our Lady of the Tall Trees, released in 2012, is a collaborative recording from Cahalen Morrison and Eli West, a Pacific Northwest duo whose music occupies the borderland between old-time, folk, and country blues. Morrison's singing — high, unaffected, and carrying the grain of the old mountain style — anchors a set that treats American folk song not as preservation project but as living practice. West's guitar playing draws on the fingerpicking tradition associated with the Pacific Northwest's own folk and country blues lineage. The record is intimate, unhurried, and confident in the value of what it does.
