Pilgrimage to Rising Fawn (Avondale Records, 2024) was produced by John Carter Cash, who brought recording equipment from Cash Cabin Studio to Norman and Nancy Blake's home in Rising Fawn, Georgia, capturing sessions over the course of a year. The cast assembled around Blake — Nancy Blake (cello), Jamey Johnson (guitar, vocals), Carlene Carter, Jamie Hartford, Jerry Douglas (dobro), and Matt Combs (fiddle) — reflects Cash's gift for building community around a revered figure in their own environment. Johnson's documented reverence for the roots canon makes his pairing with Blake natural, and the album's home-session intimacy distinguishes it from a conventional studio production. It was received as a moving late document of Blake's artistry.
