Pretty Girls City Lights (Rebel REB-CD-1760, 2000) is Ralph Stanley II's second solo album for Rebel, recorded at Maggard Studios in April and May 1999. Ralph Stanley II (lead vocals, lead guitar) fronts a Clinch Mountain Boys lineup that includes Ralph Stanley Sr. (banjo) — stepping in for Steve Sparkman — alongside Jack Cooke (bass), James Allen Shelton (guitar), Junior Blankenship (guitar), John Rigsby (fiddle), and James Price (fiddle). The album deepens Ralph II's reputation as a fine singer in the classic Stanley mold, influenced equally by Carter Stanley, Roy Lee Centers, and Keith Whitley, with a somewhat softer country feel than most Stanley-tradition recordings. It marks an important chapter in his ongoing effort to carry the Clinch Mountain sound forward.
