- Member of Ralph Stanley & the Clinch Mountain Boys, 1995–2003 — his most prominent tenure.

- Released three solo fiddle albums: "The Old Mountaineer" (1994, Hay Holler), "Southern Flavor" (1998, Freeland), and "Fiddlin' the Old Time Way" (2003, Rebel).
- Style described as old-time mountain fiddle with unusual clarity and precision; often compared to Curly Ray Cline.
- Led two regional West Virginia bands after Stanley: James Price & Kentucky Reign (bluegrass) and James Price & Native Country (country).
