A Ride Through the Country

Lost and Found

Album · 1995 · Rebel REB-CS 1723

A Ride Through the Country was issued by Rebel on cassette (REB-CS 1723) on 11 July 1995. Lost & Found, which formed in Virginia in the early 1970s, had signed with Rebel in the 1980s and recorded a series of albums for the label. On this one Allen Mills plays bass, Dempsey Young mandolin, Lynwood Lunsford banjo, Barry Berrier guitar and James Price fiddle, with Mills, Berrier and Young sharing the vocals. Otis Lynn Dillon engineered it, and the band produced it.

The repertoire is classic country songs rather than bluegrass standards: Merle Haggard’s “Swinging Doors,” Mel Street’s “Borrowed Angel,” Lawton Williams’s “Fraulein,” Gary Stewart and Bill Eldridge’s “Sweet Thang and Cisco,” and “I Wouldn’t Change You If I Could,” credited to Arthur Q. Smith. The second side ends with a medley that opens and closes with “The Wild Side of Life” and passes through “Take These Chains from My Heart,” “They’ll Never Take Her Love from Me,” Stonewall Jackson’s “Don’t Be Angry” and “Wedding Bells.”
