Pretty Green Hills, released in 2006 on Rebel (REB-CD 1812), is a Dave Evans and River Bend album recorded at Tom T. and Dixie Hall's home studio in Franklin, Tennessee. Evans (banjo/vocals) leads a lineup with Bo Isaac on vocals, Mike Garris on bass, guitar, and vocals, Merl Johnson on guitar, fiddle, and mandolin, Randy Thomas on mandolin, and Dave Miner on Dobro, with Bluegrass Hall of Famer Bobby Hicks guesting on fiddle. The repertoire is steeped-in-tradition straight-ahead bluegrass: Stanley-style standards ("Cora Is Gone," "Our Last Goodbye"), public-domain ballads ("Little Willie," "East Virginia Blues"), Evans originals, and two Tom T. and Dixie Hall songs including the title cut — a typical Hall-era Rebel mix of bluegrass roots and new material from the label's premier songwriting couple.
