Quicksilver Rides Again was released by Sugar Hill in 1982 (SH-3727), the follow-up to the gospel album Rock My Soul from 1981. Doyle Lawson plays mandolin, Jimmy Haley guitar, Terry Baucom banjo and Lou Reid bass, the same four as on the earlier record, and all four sing on every one of the eleven tracks. Sam Bush plays fiddle throughout. Mike Auldridge plays dobro on “Misery River,” “Till the Rivers All Run Dry,” “I’ll Be Around Somewhere” and “The Lonesome River,” and Jerry Douglas plays dobro on “Georgia Girl,” “Yellow River,” “Poet with Wings,” “Kentucky Song” and “Mountain Girl.”
The songs come from several directions. “Misery River” is credited to Glen Worf, “Georgia Girl” to Pete Goble, “Kentucky Song” to Mike Cross, “I’ll Be Around Somewhere” to Tim Spencer, “Mountain Girl” to Marshall Wilborn and “The Lonesome River” to Carter Stanley. On the record label, “Mountain Girl” carries the title “Heart of a Little Mountain Girl.”
