Railroad Town, released in 2022 on Mountain Fever (MFR 2211405), is Jr. Williams's solo album after his long tenure with Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys. Williams sings lead and is backed by a hard-traditional session crew including Adam Steffey on mandolin, Aaron Ramsey on guitar, and Jeff Partin on Dobro, working a program of modern-traditional bluegrass — warm lead vocals over mostly familiar bluegrass and country covers plus a few newer cuts. The title track, "Railroad Town Without a Train" by Thomm Jutz and Tim Stafford, tells the true story of the Clinchfield rail yards closing in Erwin, Tennessee, and charted on Bluegrass Unlimited's Top 30. The record is Williams's most fully realized solo statement to date.
