Rattlesnake Tidal Wave (Foghorn Music, 2003) is the debut album from the Foghorn Stringband, the Portland, Oregon-based old-time quartet that became one of the most influential ensembles in the early twenty-first century old-time revival. Kevin Sandri plays guitar and sings; Caleb Klauder plays mandolin and sings; Sammy Lind plays fiddle and sings; and Brian Bagdonas holds the bass. Recorded the year before its release and issued on the band's own imprint, the album draws from Southern Appalachian fiddle-tune and string-band repertoire with the raw energy and communal spirit of a working dance band — swing and groove over solo display. The Foghorn Stringband's tireless touring and subsequent recordings helped revitalize interest in the old-time tradition among younger audiences well beyond the Pacific Northwest.
