Sammy Lind

The first band, Foghorn Leghorn, had Lind on fiddle and vocals, Klauder on mandolin, P. T. Grover Jr. on banjo and Brian Bagdonas on bass. In September 2002 it became the Foghorn Stringband and recorded Rattlesnake Tidal Wave, issued that November on its own Foghorn Music label, with fiddle tunes such as “Lost Girl” and “Grey Eagle.” Reap What You Sow followed in 2004 and Weiser Sunrise, on Nettwerk America, in 2005. In 2003 Lind and Klauder also played fiddle and mandolin, as the Pine Tree String Band, on Bluegrass Favorites, recorded by Billy Oskay.

In 2008 and 2009 Lind and Klauder toured as the Foghorn Duo and released Lonesome Song. A new Foghorn band from 2009 to 2011 included Patrick Lind on rhythm guitar and Nadine Landry on bass, and since the winter of 2011 the lineup has been Lind on fiddle, banjo and vocals, Klauder on mandolin and fiddle, Landry on bass and Reeb Willms on guitar, all four singing. With them he has recorded Outshine the Sun (2012), Devil in the Seat (2015), with material learned from Matokie Slaughter, Clyde Davenport and Fiddlin’ Powers among others, and Rock Island Grange (2018), which mixes fiddle tunes with songs such as “Reuben’s Train” and “Train on the Island.” The band has toured as far as Shetland, Orkney, Ireland, Denmark, Finland and Malaysia.

Lind and Landry released a duo album, Granddad’s Favorite, in 2010, mixing country songs such as “A Fool Such as I” and “Turn the Cards Slowly” with Cajun pieces such as “Parlez Nous a Boire” and “Les Oiseaux Vont Chanter.” He has also made two instructional DVDs of old-time fiddle.
