"Devil in the Seat," released in March 2015 on the band's own Foghorn Music imprint, is the eighth album by the Foghorn Stringband — the Portland, Oregon old-time quartet of Caleb Klauder (mandolin, fiddle, vocals), Reeb Willms (guitar, vocals), Nadine Landry (bass, vocals), and Sammy Lind (fiddle, banjo, vocals). Recorded in Hawaii, the 16-track set draws on pre-commercial Appalachian string-band and fiddle-tune tradition alongside early country, Sacred Harp material, and Depression-era dance music. The band's hallmark — deep-harmony ensemble vocals over traditional repertoire — is fully realized here. The Irish Times praised the album as a vivid distillation of the old-time canon, and it stands as a mature statement from one of the finest old-time ensembles of their generation.
