Reckoning cover

The Grateful Dead's Reckoning, recorded at acoustic sets in September 1980 at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco and Radio City Music Hall in New York, and released on Arista Records (A2L-8604) in April 1981, is the band's most explicitly folk- and country-oriented live document. Jerry Garcia plays acoustic guitar and sings; Bob Weir, acoustic guitar and vocals; Phil Lesh, upright bass; Brent Mydland, piano; Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart, percussion. The repertoire—jug band songs, traditional tunes, and originals including "Dire Wolf" and "Friend of the Devil"—is performed entirely on acoustic instruments without electric amplification. For a roots-music catalog it is the most direct access point to Garcia's and Weir's deeply held folk and country influences, stripped of all psychedelic overlay.
