Album · 1999 · Copper Creek CCCD-0167

Regenesis is a 1999 album by the Crowe Brothers, Josh Crowe on guitar and lead vocal and Wayne Crowe on bass and harmony, released by Copper Creek (CCCD-0167). It gathers nine of the ten songs from the brothers’ first album, The Crowe Brothers Sing “Always True” (Skyline SR 004, 1981), and adds newer recordings to make thirteen tracks.

The Skyline material includes the brothers’ version of Flatt and Scruggs’s “Down the Road,” along with “Two Arms to Hold Me,” “Sweethearts in Heaven” and the title song “Always True.” The album opens with a later cut, Tom T. Hall’s “The Engineers Don’t Wave from the Trains Anymore,” recorded in May 1988 at Country Road Studio in Marion, North Carolina. The players on those sessions include Raymond Fairchild and Zane Fairchild, with whom the brothers worked for years, and Arvil Freeman on fiddle. Some of the newer tracks add drums, piano or harmonica to the brothers’ duet singing.
