Ridin’ Out the Storm is a 2001 album by Iron Horse, issued on B Sharp Records (B Sharp 1005). The band, from the Muscle Shoals area of northwest Alabama, dates from 2000, and this is a four-piece recording: Vance Henry on guitar, Tony Robertson on mandolin, Ricky Rogers on bass and Rodney Carter on banjo and mandolin. Henry, Robertson and Rogers share the vocals. The sessions were held at Lee’s Lab in Sheffield, Alabama.
The album has fourteen tracks, eleven with vocals and three instrumentals. It opens with “Fire on the Mountain,” the Marshall Tucker Band song credited to George McCorkle; Henry later recalled that the band had already recorded it before CMH Records approached them in 2001 with the idea of bluegrass versions of rock songs. Robertson wrote “Mando Mambo,” “In My Father’s House” and the closing “Iron Horse,” and co-wrote the title song with Rogers; Rogers wrote “Come On In.” Jake Landers is credited with “Fair Weather Friends” and “Rain, Rain, Rain,” and shares “This Old House” with Rogers. Other writers include Marshall Warwick (“Leaving Me,” “Going Home”), Wayne Taylor (“Lonesome Pine”) and Lester Flatt (“Little Girl in Tennessee”).
