Rockville Pike cover

Rockville Pike (Patuxent Music, 2008) is a studio album from fiddler Nate Leath, recorded at Patuxent's Rockville, Maryland studio with a circle of young players from the mid-2000s old-time revival community. Leath plays fiddle throughout; Danny Knicely plays guitar; Eric Robertson plays mandolin; Mark Schatz holds the bass; and Brian Vollmer contributes banjo and fiddle. The album presents traditional Appalachian fiddle material and original compositions in the old-time style, rooted in the fiddle-convention tradition Leath absorbed through years at North Carolina competitions. Additional guests — including Tatiana Hargreaves, Sarah Jarosz, and Kimberly Fraser — appear on select tracks, giving the record the character of a working-session gathering rather than a tightly controlled solo statement. Patuxent Music, the Washington-area independent committed to acoustic documentation, provided a natural home for Leath's debut full-length.
