Satan Is Real is a 1959 album released by the Louvin Brothers on Capitol Records (T-1277). Charlie Louvin (guitar, vocals) and Ira Louvin (mandolin, vocals) present a collection of original gospel compositions backed by Nashville session musicians, with the most striking album cover in country music history: the brothers posed before a plywood Satan sculpture surrounded by burning tires. The title track—written by the Louvins—became an underground classic, and the entire album reflects their uncompromising commitment to sacred music delivered with the close, tight harmonies that had been their commercial signature since the early 1950s.
