Scale Down (self-released via CD Baby, 2007) is Rising Appalachia's second studio album, an independently released follow-up to the sisters' 2005 debut Leah and Chloe. Sisters Leah Song and Chloe Smith, then still building their repertoire and audience through grassroots touring, draw on acoustic folk and old-time traditions in a pared-down setting that documents the early development of their signature blend of Appalachian string music and socially conscious songwriting. The album represents an essential early chapter in the band's growth as self-sufficient touring artists before the expanded lineups and outside production of later releases. Note: the catalog's personnel entry lists Ben Isaacs and Calvin Durham, which does not match the Rising Appalachia lineup and appears to reflect a data error.
