Session 1 (Mountain Fever Records, 2013) is the debut album from Sideline, a traditional bluegrass supergroup assembled from veterans of some of the genre's most accomplished contemporary outfits. Steve Dilling on banjo, Skip Cherryholmes on guitar, Darrell Webb on mandolin, Justen Haynes on fiddle, and Jason Moore on bass bring a collective résumé spanning multiple IBMA award cycles — their prior credits include Nothin' Fancy, Rhonda Vincent & the Rage, and the Cherryholmes family ensemble. The group's approach is emphatically hard-driving and traditional: tight ensemble playing, close vocal harmonies, and tempos that favor forward motion over ornamentation. A second installment, Session 2, followed in 2015. The performing act is Sideline; the catalog entry reflects the album's title rather than the band name.
