Jason Moore was a North Carolina bassist whose understated, metronomic time anchored the James King Band, Mountain Heart, and Sideline across nearly three decades of contemporary bluegrass — named IBMA Bass Player of the Year in 2019.
- Born in 1974; played a 1945 Kay M-1 upright bass that he inherited from his father.
- Began his bluegrass career with the James King Band in 1993, staying through 1999, including the acclaimed "Bed by the Window" project.
- Joined Mountain Heart in early 2000 and remained with the band until July 2014, recording six band albums.
- Founding member of Sideline; remained with the band through his death.
- Nominated four times for IBMA Bass Player of the Year; won the award in 2019.
- Sideline took IBMA Song of the Year in 2019 for "Thunder Dan."
- Played on three Grammy-nominated projects; won IBMA Recorded Event of the Year twice and Gospel Recorded Event of the Year.
- Died unexpectedly of a heart attack on November 21, 2021, age 47; survived by wife Mollie. Funeral services were held at Fair Funeral Home in Eden, North Carolina.
