Album · 2014 · Mountain Fever MFR 140520

Dream Big was released by the Darrell Webb Band on Mountain Fever Records (MFR 140520) on 20 May 2014. The ten-track album marked Webb’s twentieth year as a professional musician, and he used it to bring back players and singers from the bands he had worked with. On the opening track, Josh Miller’s “Ferry Man,” Tim Stafford plays guitar, Rob Ickes resophonic guitar and Jason Burleson banjo, with Shawn Lane singing harmony, Jason Moore on bass and the producer, Jim VanCleve, on fiddle. Ronnie Bowman shares the lead on “So Far,” Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent sing harmony on “Folks Like Us,” and Rhonda Vincent sings on “More Life.” Sammy Shelor plays banjo on “Bad Old Yesterdays.” Webb sings and plays mandolin, guitar and banjo; he plays banjo on “Pretty Polly,” a song Ralph Stanley sang. “Mashtag” is an instrumental written by Webb and VanCleve.

Webb is from Knoxville, Tennessee. He began his professional career at 19, touring with the Lonesome River Band after Dan Tyminski left to join Alison Krauss’s band, and later played with J.D. Crowe and the New South (from 1997), Rhonda Vincent and the Rage (2007) and Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper (2008). He formed the Darrell Webb Band in 2009. The band members heard on Dream Big include Jared Hensley (guitar), Jake Joines (dobro) and Aaron Ramsey (mandolin).
