Aaron Ramsey
Contemporary Bluegrass
Aaron Ramsey is a North Carolina-born multi-instrumentalist and songwriter whose dozen years with Mountain Heart and current seat with Volume Five have made him one of the most musically wide-ranging contemporary bluegrass mandolinists, equally at home on guitar, dobro, and bass.
- From Morganton, North Carolina; began on bass before picking up mandolin at age 12.
- Started performing in the family Gospel-bluegrass band Damascus Road, in which his father Mike Ramsey played bass.
- Won the MerleFest mandolin competition in 2002 at age 17.
- Played with The Linville Ridge Band (2002–early 2006), then joined Randy Kohrs & The Lites in March 2006.
- Joined Mountain Heart in December 2007 (replacing Adam Steffey), debuting on the Grand Ole Opry; spent roughly a dozen years with the band as a multi-instrumentalist.
- Released the solo album "Gathering" in 2013, with six tracks co-written with his father Mike.
- Joined Volume Five as mandolin player in 2020.
- Endorsing artist for Northfield Mandolins.
