Shotgun Willie cover

Shotgun Willie is a 1973 album released by Willie Nelson on Atlantic Records (SD 7262), widely credited as the catalyst for the outlaw country movement. Nelson (guitar, vocals) broke from the Nashville Sound by bringing his own road band—the Family—to sessions that also featured Doug Sahm (guitar), Waylon Jennings (guitar), Johnny Gimble (fiddle), Dave Bromberg, and Jessi Colter and Larry Gatlin on harmony, with string arrangements by Arif Mardin and Donny Hathaway. Co-produced by Arif Mardin and Jerry Wexler, and recorded in New York, Nashville, and Memphis, the album established the template for the raw, unconstrained approach that defined Nelson's commercial breakthrough in the mid-1970s.
