Sing Me Back Home: The DC Tapes, 1965–1969 was released by Free Dirt Records on 21 September 2018. The music comes from home recordings that Alice Gerrard made with Hazel Dickens in the Washington, D.C., area between 1965 and 1969. Gerrard taped their sessions on a reel-to-reel recorder, mainly so she could play them back and hear how to improve. The tapes stayed in her private archive until they were digitized with help from the Southern Folklife Collection at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Gerrard and Joe Dejarnette produced the release.
The 19 tracks include songs associated with the Carter Family, the Louvin Brothers and Jimmie Rodgers, 1960s songs by Dolly Parton and Merle Haggard, and traditional pieces. All but one had never been released by the duo before. Their released duo albums are Hazel & Alice (Rounder 0027, 1973) and Hazel Dickens and Alice Gerrard (Rounder 0054, 1976).
