Album · 1962 · Capitol ST 1747

Something Special is a 1962 album by the Kingston Trio, recorded at Capitol’s studios in Los Angeles in April and released that July. It was made by the line-up of Bob Shane, Nick Reynolds and John Stewart, who had replaced Dave Guard the year before, with Jimmie Haskell arranging strings, brass and a choir around them. The record reached number 7 on the Billboard pop albums chart. It opens with Scotty Wiseman’s “Brown Mountain Light,” the earliest release of the song on record, with Dean Reilly on bass behind the three singers.
