Sound of the Slide Guitar, released in 2008 on Sugar Hill (SUG-CD 4041), is the debut solo album by Dobro player Andy Hall of the Infamous Stringdusters. Eight of its eleven tracks are Hall originals, ranging from straight bluegrass ("One More Moment") to bluesy and progressive-acoustic pieces. The supporting cast pulls from Hall's Stringdusters bandmates Andy Falco, Jesse Cobb, and Travis Book, with guest spots from David Grier, Tim Stafford, and fellow Dobroist Rob Ickes. The record arrived in the same season the Infamous Stringdusters won IBMA Emerging Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for Fork in the Road, and it served as Hall's solo bid to extend the modern Dobro lineage running through Jerry Douglas, Mike Auldridge, and Ickes.
