Sounds Like Heaven to Me (Rural Rhythm Christian RHYC 2006, 2010) is Lou Reid & Carolina's first all-gospel project, fourteen tracks recorded at Eastwood Studio in Cana, Virginia. Lou Reid (mandolin, vocals) leads Shannon Slaughter (guitar, vocals) — who joined Carolina around 2007 after stints with the Lonesome River Band — alongside Trevor Watson (banjo), Christy Reid (bass, vocals), and Ron Stewart (fiddle). Slaughter, who co-wrote several songs, emerged here as one of the group's most distinctive voices. Nashville pedal steel specialist Russ Pahl, known for his work with Vince Gill and Buddy Miller, contributes to several tracks, lending a country-gospel shimmer to the core bluegrass sound. The album demonstrates the ease with which Reid's ensemble navigated from traditional bluegrass to sacred material while preserving their signature vocal identity.
