Stellar Jays cover

Stellar Jays is a 2007 Corvus Records album (CR-015) by John Reischman & The Jaybirds, the Pacific Northwest–based bluegrass ensemble led by Vancouver mandolinist John Reischman. Their fourth studio release features Jim Nunally on guitar and vocals, Trisha Gagnon — who contributed the title instrumental "The Jaybird Song" — on bass and vocals, Nick Hornbuckle on five-string banjo, and Greg Spatz on fiddle. Reischman, a former member of Tony Rice's California Contingent and a close associate of David Grisman, brings sophisticated mandolin work shaped by both Appalachian tradition and acoustic jazz. The album presents original compositions alongside traditional material in the progressive acoustic bluegrass style the group had developed across years of performing together on the Pacific Rim circuit.
