Stuart Duncan, the fiddler's self-titled solo debut, was released by Rounder Records in 1992 with a guest list that ran from Béla Fleck and Victor Wooten of the Flecktones to fellow Nashville Bluegrass Band members Roland White and Pat Enright. The album walks a deliberate line between the traditional bluegrass material Duncan had been working in with the Nashville Bluegrass Band (which he had joined in 1985) and the more adventurous original compositions his Flecktones connections invited. Duncan was already on his way to becoming Nashville's most sought-after acoustic fiddler — a player whose session credits over the next thirty years would make him one of the most-recorded voices in contemporary bluegrass and country.
