Take Me to the Mountains cover

Take Me to the Mountains is an album by Del McCoury and the Dixie Pals originally released on Leather Records (LBG-8107) in 1981 and reissued by Rebel Records (REB-1622) in 1983 after the original label folded. Recorded at Threshold Recordings in Roanoke, Virginia, it captures one of the strongest Dixie Pals lineups: Dick Smith (banjo), Herschel Sizemore (mandolin, vocals), Sonny Miller (fiddle), and Jerry McCoury (bass), behind Del McCoury's guitar and his high, signature lead vocal. The band had toured Japan in 1979 at the height of their cohesion, and this album captures that tightly drilled, traditional sound at its most assured—blending original material with bluegrass and country covers in the hard-driving style McCoury had refined since his early years with Bill Monroe.
