Take Me to the Mountains

Take Me to the Mountains was first released in 1981 on Leather Records (LBG-8107). Del McCoury produced it, and it was recorded at Threshold Recording in Roanoke, Virginia, with Harold Thompson as engineer. Leather was short-lived; when the label’s driving force developed health problems, Rebel Records acquired the master and gave the album national distribution as REB 1622.

It introduced a new Dixie Pals line-up: Del McCoury on guitar and lead vocals, Dick Smith on banjo, Herschel Sizemore on mandolin, Sonny Miller on fiddle and Jerry McCoury on bass. The title song is credited to Humphries. Rebel names three Del McCoury originals on it: “Dreams,” “This Kind of Life” and “A Good Man Like Me.” “Cindy” is credited as traditional. The two editions differ in one place on side one: Leather’s second track is “Undone in Sorrow,” the Ola Belle Reed song, and Rebel’s is “Over Yonder in the Grave Yard,” credited to Reed.
