The Broken Circle Breakdown is a 2012 film soundtrack released on Menuet under license to Universal Music Belgium, produced by Björn Eriksson and recorded at Salle Jeanne in Antwerp. The music belongs to the fictional Broken Circle Breakdown Bluegrass Band, whose all-live-on-set performances drive Felix Van Groeningen's Belgian drama—in which two people fall in love through their shared passion for American bluegrass and gospel. All band scenes were performed live by the cast: Björn Eriksson (guitar, dobro, vocals), Johan Heldenbergh (banjo, vocals), Veerle Baetens (lead vocals), Nils De Caster (violin, mandolin, vocals), Karl Eriksson (banjo, vocals), Bert Van Bortel (guitar, mandolin, vocals), and Thomas De Smet (bass). The soundtrack became the best-selling album in Belgian history in its year of release; the film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.
