Audie Blaylock and Redline

Album · 2022 · Rural Rhythm Records

The Collection is a 35-track compilation from Audie Blaylock & Redline, released by Rural Rhythm Records on 18 August 2022. Its first thirty tracks match, in title, the four albums Blaylock made for the label between 2009 and 2012: Audie Blaylock & Redline (2009), Cryin’ Heart Blues (2010), I’m Going Back to Old Kentucky (2011) and Hard Country (2012).

Blaylock plays guitar and sings. On the 2009 tracks, which open the set, he is joined by Evan Ward on banjo, Patrick McAvinue on fiddle and Matt Wallace on bass, with Jason Johnson on mandolin for most of them; the tracks drawn from Cryin’ Heart Blues, among them “Pray the Clouds Away,” written by Jimmy Martin and Paul Williams, and Don Parmley’s “He Is Near,” have Ward on banjo, McAvinue on fiddle and Wallace on bass. The Old Kentucky tracks feature Russ Carson on banjo, Ronnie McCoury on mandolin, McAvinue on fiddle and Reed Jones on bass, with guest vocals from Lou Reid, Del McCoury and Bobby Osborne on individual songs, and Glen Duncan and Jason Carter added on fiddle for “Tall Timber” and “Cry Cry Darlin’.” The Hard Country tracks, with Carson, Jesse Brock on mandolin, McAvinue and Jason Moore on bass, include Harley Allen’s “Home Is Where the Heart Is” and “A Natural Thing,” Ira Louvin and Irene Franks’s “Stormy Horizons,” the traditional “Philadelphia Lawyer” and Blaylock’s own “A Grandmother’s Love,” with McAvinue also singing on most of them.
