The Old Swinging Bridge cover

The Old Swinging Bridge (Rounder Records 0020) is a studio album from Ted Lundy and the Southern Mountain Boys, documenting the Ashe County, North Carolina banjoist and his ensemble in the traditional bluegrass format that Rounder Records used to preserve regional acts whose direct approach to the hard-core style was earning them devoted local and festival audiences during the early 1970s revival. Ted Lundy plays banjo and sings; Bob Paisley plays guitar and sings; Jerry Lundy plays mandolin; Wes Rineer plays fiddle; and John Haftl holds the bass. Paisley's presence — the Virginia guitarist who would later build his own Southern Grass ensemble — connects the album to the mid-Atlantic traditional bluegrass community that Lundy inhabited, and the recording documents the hard-driving, un-elaborated traditional approach that Rounder was committed to preserving in its early catalog of regional bluegrass acts.
