The Original Band, released by Sugar Hill Records in 1999, is a remastered HDCD compilation of the first two non-gospel Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver albums — the 1979 self-titled debut and 1982's Quicksilver Rides Again — featuring the original band lineup of Jimmy Haley on guitar and lead, Lou Reid on bass and harmony, Terry Baucom on banjo and bass vocals, and Lawson on mandolin. The pairing on a single CD made the early Quicksilver material accessible to bluegrass audiences who had come to the band through its later gospel work and lineup changes. The album sits as the canonical compact summary of Quicksilver's foundational secular catalog.
