The Phosphorescent Blues is a 2015 album released by Punch Brothers on Nonesuch Records (547343-1). The quintet—Chris Thile (mandolin, mandola, lead vocals), Chris Eldridge (guitar, vocals), Noam Pikelny (banjo, vocals), Gabe Witcher (fiddle, vocals), and Paul Kowert (bass, vocals)—recorded the set at Ocean Way Recording and The Village Recorders in Hollywood, produced by T Bone Burnett. The album addresses themes of mobile technology, distraction, and human disconnection in the digital age, framing contemporary anxieties within the acoustic string-band vocabulary the band had refined across three previous studio albums. The two-LP vinyl release includes four bonus tracks not found on the CD.
