The Road West (Corvus CR 012) is a John Reischman and the Jaybirds album released in Canada on 21 April 2005. It followed the band’s 2001 debut and Field Guide, which was nominated for a Juno Award. Sixteen tracks run from the half-minute opener “Roustabout” to the closing “Crowberry,” and seven of them are instrumentals: “Roustabout,” “Home Sweet Home,” “Sandy Boys,” “Blackberry Bramble,” “Old Reuben No. 1,” “Allen’s Creek” and “Crowberry.”
The vocal tracks include “Hop High My Lulu Gal,” “Travelin’ the Road West,” “In the Fall,” “Deep Dark Sea,” “Liza Jane,” “Troubles” and “As Time Draws Near.” On “Hop High My Lulu Gal” Trisha Gagnon sings lead and plays bass, with John Reischman on mandolin and harmony vocals, Nick Hornbuckle on banjo and Greg Spatz on fiddle.
